Press Release for 2009 Fringe

SKIN DEEP at the Fringe

Ever wonder what lies beneath the skin?

SKIN DEEP is about hidden identities, mixed messages, and transformations. It’s a place where wolves howl, men sell their souls, skeletons grow back their skin, women become men, and musicians play with broken wings. The place to come and see master story-weavers at work and hear spellbinding music. These people are storytellers par excellence - they will hold you in the palm of their hands and give you no quarter! All have a different storytelling style and all are equally effective. Our storytellers and musicians span the ages. Featuring Tom Roche, Kay Stone, Mary Louise Chown, Michael Cobus, Kevin Scott

Second Performance of The Wine Dark Sea

We are adding a second performance of The Wine Dark Sea: Tales from the Oddyssey. There will be a performance at 2:00Pm on Saturday April 18th at Aqua Books.

New Venue, New Schedule

NEW VENUE: The Magic of One Fringe show (Seven Deadly Sins) was a great success at the new AQUA BOOKS, at 274 Garry St. and a number of audience members who were delighted with this venue suggested we consider switching. SO WE HAVE. It is smaller and more intimate, the stage is lower and closer to the audience, the sound is better, and we’re working on the lighting. It’s an exciting change. Aqua Books can seat 115, so get your tickets early, so you won’t miss the show!

NEW SCHEDULE: Two of the concerts will be at other venues. On November 7 , we are presenting GRANDMOTHER’S KNEE at the lovely Opera House in Manitou, MB. southwest of Winnipeg. This is the same concert as the one to be presented at Aqua Books on November 8th. On February 28 we’ll be at the Indo-Canadian Cultural Centre at 479 St. Mary’s Rd.

Tickets: Single tickets $15. Tickets are available in advance from Aqua Books, and also at the door.

Season passes are $50.

To order your pass, call 257-1110, or email:maggiekeller@shaw.ca
Please put the following concerts and dates on your calendar. More details later!

Fringe show review

Some reviews for our Fringe show, Seven Deadly Sins, have been posted on the CBC website. Here’s one from Hannah & Chris Wigglesworth:

We went to opening night for this show and really enjoyed it. The stories held our attention from start to finish, and the music and storytelling fit really well together. There were six great stories from around the world including one from Canada about the gold rush in B.C. And there was lots of variety in the music (and musical instruments!) as well. It was even very kid-friendly (that is no sex or swearing) - but still lots of spice!!.
